Inside the largest Buddhist temple in the world. Built in the 9th century. This massive temple in Indonesia was abandoned around the 14th century—possibly due to volcanic eruptions or changing religious influences. Hidden for centuries beneath layers of volcanic ash and jungle overgrowth, Borobudur was a forgotten masterpiece until its rediscovery in 1814.

The largest acidic crater lake in the world and the volcanic complex Ijen is popular for its blue fire and sulfur mining. In order to see the fire you have to get up at night and undergo a challenging walk in a pitch-black and freezing cold. That is, of course, no issue since you get to see a view like this.

Seeing the sunrise from the top of Mount Batur is a once in a lifetime experience that shouldn't be missed out once you are visiting Bali. Getting up at 1 o'clock in the morning was totally worth it.

Hiking in Indonesia is a lot different to hiking in Europe, let me tell you. Firstly, it is not something locals would do for fun like we do. There is very little to no orientation system in place. Most of the time you've got no idea where you are going, and it's hard to identify if you are already lost or not just yet. While in the Czech Republic you won't walk more than 7 kilometres without bumping into a pub or a stand where you can reward yourself with a beverage or a meal. This is obviously not the case in the Indonesian jungle. All you are praying for is not to bump into a snake or an unpleasant looking spider. Being prepared is the key. Don't rely on maps as there's no signal anyway. If you walk the same way there and back make sure you remember the trail. Turn around every couple of minutes and have a look at the “pathway”. To make sure not to get lost, we were even making human imprints, such as tying a knot in a leaf or a vine. The survivor's joy when after 4 hours we got out of the maze was intense, and we definitely did reward ourselves accordingly afterwards, like the good old Europeans.

Because life is not just rainbows, but it's the howling wind and furious waves crushing off the shore too. The greatest beauty may hide in the most unexpected after all.

I have. The reason is the narrow nature of the houses. Furniture would rarely fit up the stairs, so it would be lifted up the outside of the building and brought in through the windows instead.

In early December me and my boyfriend went on a lovely trip to Pembrokshire. I was dying to see Tenby for quite some time as it is known as one of the most picturesque towns in South Wales. I dreamt of taking my camera and shoot pictures all day but the weather conditions changed that very soon. Cold wind howling from the seaside made my hands so cold I could barely hold the camera for more than three minutes. After we forced ourselves to walk across the bay, we then spent most of the time sitting around pubs 🍻
